Meta is launching a new subscription service that offers its Facebook and Instagram users a way to pay for their accounts to become verified. Applicants will submit a government ID matching the profile name and a photo of the Facebook or Instagram account they wish to verify. "Meta Verified" is not available for businesses yet but is in the pipeline.
"Meta Verified" testing will begin this week in Australia and New Zealand and then in other countries soon after. The announcement came on Sunday via CEO Mark Zuckerberg's Instagram account. Zuckerberg also wrote, "This new feature is about increasing authenticity and security across our services,"
The monthly subscription service will cost $11.99 on the web or $14.99 on iOS or Android. The service also comes with protection from impersonation accounts, direct access to customer support, and increased visibility and reach in areas like search and recommendations.
